Computer Comparisons

This page has information on my various computer hardware, and some benchmarks I've run. Boot time is calculated from a cold start to the time the HD is mostly silent (think popcorn popping). Free CPU Benchmark (formerly known as CPUMark) is used to run a series of registry, floating-point and integer calculations. The faster it finishes the better.

Computer Processor Memory Boot Time Benchmark Notes
103161221.jpg Fujitsu FMV-7000NA5 Intel Mobile Celeron 1.99Ghz (Northwood) 496MB 08m45s 59.68sec This the notebook computer I have been using at work. It's stuffed full of old programs, anti-virus/spyware stuff, security encryption services, and is overloaded in general. Only the administrator can run defrag = TROUBLE. Hard drive-grinding mess.
23bl.jpg Fujitsu FMV-A8270 Intel Celeron 575 2.00Ghz 980MB 03m25s 34.44sec My new notebook computer at work. It's a much more comfortable form factor, with larger keyboard and screen. Unfortunately it's at the absolute low end of the FMV line, with a measly 1GB (some reserved for video). The processor is still 2.0Ghz, but it is about 2x as fast as the previous, so it handles XP a lot better.
